Westerham Farmers Market will close on Sunday, September 3.
Westerham Town Partnership started the market in 2010 and a spokeswoman said: “We have often talked over the years about the critical mass of stallholders needed to attract a critical mass of customers and the search for good, locally produced food at affordable prices needs to go on. However, competition from other quarters is getting harder for everyone to ignore. Not wishing to lose our reputation or inflict a slow and painful market decline, the current plan is that the last market will be on September 3.
Gary and Lorraine Curd of Oakapple Farm in Yalding, who have run a fruit and vegetable stall for two years, have decided that the time has come to reduce their workload and withdraw from running their weekend markets, which includes Westerham. Their last market will be on August 20.
